Do you do all the calligraphy by hand?
Yes, all the lettering and decoration on your document will be done by hand.

How long will it take for you to create our document?
I ask that you allow 6 weeks for a long document such as a marriage certificate. By that, I mean that I need to have your final text and your final decision on wording and design, as well as the approximate number of signers, six weeks before you want the document.

Can we make changes in the wording?
Once you have given me your text and design preferences I will be working on your document. If it is a minor change and I have not yet begun work, you may make a change. After that point, any changes will require starting from the beginning and will incur extra charges.

Do you address envelopes and do invitations?
No, my specialty is the marriage certificate.

How much will it cost?
Cost will vary according to the complexity of the design and the number of words. A simple document – less than 100 words and with very simple decorations or none – will be approximately $350 (or equivalent). More complex designs will be around $500. Packing and shipping will be an additional cost. Once we have agreed on a text and design, a deposit of $200 is due. The balance, together with shipping cost, is payable on completion of your document.

How do we decide on a design?
After looking at the examples on this site, you will have some idea of which ones you prefer. We will discuss your preferences, as well as any likes and dislikes about colors, and of course your choice of wording. Let me know too about any images you want to incorporate.

What kind of paper do you use?
All my pieces are created by hand on water color paper, acid and chlorine free. This paper has a smooth surface which will facilitate the signing of the document. For most documents I use gouache (similar to water colors but more opaque) in the colors of your choice. I mix gum arabic into the gouache to ensure good color “fixing”.

Packing and Shipping

In the USA
I will pack your document in a sturdy mailing tube and ship it either via USPS or UPS. Costs for UPS will vary according to your area but I will do my best to give you an estimate as soon as I can. Flat pack is also available but more expensive. Let me know if you want to consider this option.

Outside the USA
I will get an estimate of packing and shipping costs before starting work on your document.
